WOW Hair Academy offer Hairdressing and Barbering apprenticeships. This apprenticeship is for apprentices who work in either Hairdressing salons or Barber shops. We run bespoke roll on roll off training tailored to meet the apprentice’s needs as well as the employer.
We can deliver flexible training both in Hairdressing salon or Barber shops, on a one to one basis, a day release format which the apprentice will come into the academy or a mixture of both to suit the employer’s needs.

The Apprenticeships run, 18 months for Barbering and 24 months for Hairdressing, in which time the apprentice will gain training in both theory and practical elements. The apprentices are supported throughout their apprenticeship and if required, additional support can be arranged to meet the needs of the apprentice.
Running alongside their qualification, functional skills Maths and English will be delivered if required by the apprentice. Furthermore, developing core skill of being a professional in the industry. Part of the Apprenticeship agreement is for the employer to support the learner with ‘off the job’ training in their Hairdressing salon or Barber shop.
We host specialist training days, carried out by professional in the industry. These training days include:
Hairdressing, creative cutting techniques, specialist colour training and colour correction.
For Barbers, Hot towel shaving, fading techniques and patterns methodology which are open to employers as well as apprentices.
All our trainers are qualified professionals who hold Hairdressing L2 and L3 NVQ qualifications in both barbering and Hairdressing, they are all industry trained. We also have colour master specialist who are experts in colouring techniques and colour correction.
As an extra provision we work with professional companies such as Wella and Label M who with the assistance of their colour experts and style directors give UpToDate training to both staff and apprentice throughout the year. We also offer Wella competition and education trips to trade fairs.

An apprenticeship is an opportunity to work and study at the same time. Most of your time is spent doing on-the-job training, and the rest is spent working towards a qualification. You’ll get paid a salary and be part of a team, just like a standard employee, but you’ll also get dedicated study time throughout the week.
Hairdressing Professional Apprenticeship will take between 21- 24 months to complete the training, and then you will be required to undertake the End Point Assessment (EPA).

Barbering Professional Apprenticeship will take between 18- 21 months to complete the training, and then you will be required to undertake the End Point Assessment (EPA).

As an Apprentice, you will earn the National Minimum wage for Apprentices, which at present is £6,40 from April 2025 will rise to £7.55. You will be paid for training days as well as the days working in the salon and annual leave.
Majority of your training and assessments will take place at the training academy, base in King Street, Wolverhampton. You will be required to attend the academy once a week where on week 1 you will have theory in the morning, Functional Skills in the afternoon (if required) or techniques (practical). Week 2 you will be working the academy salon all day, working on models or blocks.
Our Academy reflects a working salon and has an IT room with computers and internet access for independent learning and 1-1 support sessions to support you every step of the way.
We also deliver extra curriculum covering British Values, Safeguarding, Prevent, Careers and Equality & Diversity.
You will have a progress review every 8 weeks at your salon, this will be with the apprentice, employer and assessor. This will support in tracking your progress and setting targets.
Your qualification will be awarded by City & Guilds and is a nationally recognised qualification, you will receive.
Once completed your Hair Professional Apprenticeship you can progress on to the Advanced Creative Hair Professional Apprenticeship. At the present time there is no route to complete a L3 Barbering qualification through an apprenticeship.
For L3 Advanced and Creative Hair Professional qualification you will be awarded by City & Guilds a nationally recognised qualification and you will receive.
As an Apprentice you will be employed by a reputable salon or Barber shop for between 30-40 hours a week.
You are entitled to 20 days paid holiday a year, plus 8 Bank Holidays. (The holiday will be pro rota if you are working less than fulltime hours)

No formal entry requirements are necessary. Initial assessment will take place prior to starting your qualification, this is an assessment not a test to see your level in English and Maths as a starting point.
